Joss Whedon’s super-low budget adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, starring many of the Whedonverse’s finest, was acquired for distribution by Lionsgate a few months ago. After a stint on the festival circuit, it’s set to be released in cinemas on 7th June 2013 in the USA and 14th June in the UK.

From IMDb:

A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words.

The cast is as follows:

Beatrice – Amy Acker

Whedon cred: Angel, Dollhouse and Cabin in the Woods.
Benedick – Alexis Denisof

The Museum of Television & Radio's Annual Los Angeles Gala

Whedon cred: Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse and Avengers (in the mid-credit ‘Thanos’ scene. He’s not wearing his own face, so nobody really recognised him.)

Claudio – Fran Kranz

Whedon cred: Dollhouse and Cabin in the Woods.

Hero – Jillian Morgese

Whedon cred: Avengers (uncredited)

Don Pedro – Reed Diamond

Whedon cred: Dollhouse

Leonato – Clark Gregg

There are more, but the character is either unlisted on the IMDb page or they aren’t main characters to the play. With a lineup like this, it’s no wonder the film festival reviews were raving.

Much Ado was filmed in black and white, in just 12 days.
