To Boldly Go: New Petition for US Government to Build the “Enterprise”

But will there be a Holo-deck?

It seems the “Star Wars” crew has been dominating the news lately.  But fear not, Trekkies: there’s a new petition for the White House to begin construction of their own version of the USS Enterprise.

An electrical engineer known only by his handle of BTE-Dan has created not only a petition, but a massive and very detailed website proposing that the US government fund NASA to begin construction on an interplanetary exploration ship based on the first generation USS enterprise (that would be the ship from TOS).  The website includes proposals for artificial gravity, hull structure, engines (with its own nuclear reactor), elevators, even a proposed funding plan and list of first missions.  BTE-Dan claims that this hypothetical Enterprise will be able to reach Earth’s moon in three days, and Mars in 90.

…gotta admit, he’s got a point.

Yes! And when they succeed, someone has to start working on a Stargate, or at least wormhole transportation of some kind, since you have to get to the planets you need to be at to install the Stargates, which you can’t do unless you have the wormhole… Ok, yeah. Enterprise is a good starting point.
