Who would win in a fight: Edgar Allen Poe or Jane Austen? Find out with the new Gamefly Games app: Writer Rumble.

As a vocabulary driven version of Street Fighter, Writer Rumble let you select an famous author and shoot lexical hadokens against your opponents. The roster includes Edgar Allen Poe, Jane Austen, H.P. Lovecraft, Agatha Christie, the Brothers Grimm, and Homer.

The game plays similarly to Zynga’s popular Scramble with Friends. However, in addition to local and online multiplayer, the game offers a single player survival mode that pits you against fictional monsters.

Each character is equipped with certain power ups. Edgar, for instance, can inflict double damage or replace the challenger’s board with random letters.

As a new title, there are still a few bugs to be worked out. The App Store reviews have a repetitive complaint: the game regularly crashes. Reviewers did agree that the game was a good concept and had fun playing. The game is currently rate 4.5 out of 5.
Hopefully, the game will get an update soon that will fix the problems and encourage the consumer to spend the $0.99 for this bookworm brawler.
