Inexplicable Superbowl Commercial

 

OK. So I’ve watched this a couple of times now and I’m still none-the-wiser.

This is a Superbowl ad by Volkswagen. It’s about an overweight dog that sheds the pounds so it can go chase a car.

Then at about forty-three seconds in something totally inexplicable happens.

Watch…

I told you it was weird. It’s not even funny. Just slightly embarrassing. Like when someone says something totally inappropriate in a room full of people but everyone’s too polite to say anything so they stare at their shoes or at a spot on the wall. Or something.

Is George Lucas really that strapped for cash that he will prostitute his wares to anyone these days?
