Robert Downey Junior Talks Iron Man III

Amid all The Avengers pant-wetting that’s gonna happen over the next few months it’s easy to forget that there’s a third Iron Man movie slated for next year. Well, and maybe not surprisingly, Robert Downey Junior hasn’t. In fact, he seems quite excited at the prospect of making the best Iron Man movie yet.

In an interview with Brazilian entertainment website, Omelete, he had this to say:

I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made.

Now perhaps I’m reading slightly too much into this, but doesn’t it sound like he’s implying The Avengers isn’t very good? I mean, surely he should be bigging up this year’s blockbuster before making claims about a movie he hasn’t even started filming yet. Still, I guess it’s nice to hear that he has high hopes for the third Iron Man instalment. He does however redeem himself with this:

But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven.  It was very odd.  It was kind of outrageous.  And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart.

Why thank you Mr Downey Junior, we are cool and smart.
